Run, Walk, Race For Earth Day 2010

Earth Day. Yes, it's baaaack! Earth Day 2010 is nearly here and the plans have begun to roll out.  From Global Water Challenge and its sponsors they are promoting a 6km run/walk during Earth Week. Why 6km? It is the average distance women and children in rural parts of the globe walk for their daily water needs.

Musicians Melissa Etheridge and Rob Thomas among other Grammy winners have joined in and signed up to provide musical entertainment at the end of the Run/Walks for Water along with water education villages.

"I am thrilled to be participating in this important event to bring clean, safe drinking water to the women and children around the world walking 6km every day to sustain their families," said Rob Thomas.

"I'm a long-time environmental advocate and believe strongly that it is our duty as a society and as individuals to preserve our planet and its resources," said Melissa Etheridge. "I want to lend my name and time to this event because the global water crisis is an environmental issue that affects nearly one billion people on the planet and through this event we can raise awareness and money to help address it."
