Do you ever wonder who picked the banana you ate for breakfast? Or
who sewed the seams on the soccer ball you kicked around over the weekend?
Whether it’s fruit, coffee, spices, sugar, or sports products – it’s important to make the most
ethical and sustainable purchasing choices, which is why EPIC: The Vancouver Sun
Sustainable Living Expo is introducing the EPIC Fair Trade Pavilion.
At the EPIC Fair Trade Pavilion consumers can interact with local companies that provide
access to overseas products that carry a Fair Trade label, certifying that their manufacturing
process meets certain social, economic and environmental standards.
“Two billion people in the world survive on less than two dollars a day,” says Jeff Geipel,
Executive Director of Fair Trade Vancouver. “Fair Trade is a way to change the terms of trade
for the products we buy so that the farmers and artisans behind those products get a better deal
and can live a healthy, happy life. We’re really proud to be able to help EPIC introduce the
event’s first Fair Trade Pavilion where consumers can come and gather the information they
need to make the most responsible shopping choices.”
Taking place May 28-30 at the Vancouver Convention Centre (west), EPIC Vancouver is
Western Canada’s largest smart lifestyle consumer tradeshow and eco-marketplace. Beyond
the Fair Trade Pavilion, EPIC is jam packed with inspiring ideas and products to help
consumers live a more sustainable lifestyle while leaving a softer footprint.
